Managing Directors, employees and guests celebrated the start of the long-awaited new building project in Clara-Immerwahr-Straße in Kassel in beautiful sunshine.
Kassel. With today's ground-breaking ceremony, GASCADE Gastransport GmbH has set an important milestone in its company history: the start of construction of the new company headquarters. This ceremony marks the start of a forward-looking project at the business location of Kassel, which focuses on sustainability, innovation and the connection with the region of northern Hessen.
A new home for innovation and sustainability
The office building, which is due to be completed and occupied in 2026, is also a commitment to the values and future of GASCADE. With an investment volume of 70 million euros, an architectural highlight is being built in the immediate vicinity of the Kulturbahnhof in Kassel that combines functionality and ecological foresight. It was designed as part of an architectural competition by the renowned Hamburg firm Störmer Murphy and Partners.
The innovative timber hybrid construction method with prefabricated elements not only allows the shell of the new centre to be built quickly, but also makes a significant contribution to reducing the carbon footprint. Compared to "classic" concrete construction, around 6.000 tonnes of CO₂ are saved. The building is supplied with heating and cooling by a geothermal system. Photovoltaic systems on the roof and facade ensure that the electricity generated can cover 90 percent of the building's own requirements.
GASCADE says "YES" to Kassel
"As a Kassel-based company, it is important to us to keep our headquarters here," explains Ulrich Benterbusch, Managing Director of GASCADE. "We are continuing to grow and need space. When GASCADE was founded, we had 310 employees throughout Germany. We now have 500 employees and are continuing to expand. With the new building, we are not only creating the necessary space at our headquarters, but also sending a strong signal for sustainability and future-orientated action."
The project underlines GASCADE's commitment to climate protection and is also an expression of its own transformation in the context of the energy transition.
Matthias Nölke, Kassel City Treasurer of Department II for Finance and Economics, agrees: "GASCADE is contributing to Germany's energy security and driving forward the key future technology of hydrogen. We are very pleased that such an important company is investing in Kassel as an industrial centre and further increasing our regional competitiveness."
Modern working environment meets ecological responsibility
The architecture of the building blends harmoniously into its surroundings and sets new standards in terms of construction and working environment. With around 380 flexible workstations, the new building will provide a modern working environment for the employees working at the Kassel site. The design encourages encounters and at the same time offers flexible work areas that meet the requirements of a constantly changing working environment.
