We supply Germany
And connect Europe

Our company
Shaping future gas transport

Progress is what drives us. We are proud to offer our customers competent and comprehensive transport services at all times. As an independent transmission system operator we rely on a centrally controlled pipeline system that is based on the highest technical standards and is continuously further developed. We ensure that the gas we transport – in future primarily hydrogen – gets to where it is needed. Our centrally located transport infrastructure contributes to supply security in Germany and Europe – now and in the future.

We operate pipelines for tomorrow’s energy market

Climate-friendly, reliable, independent. That’s what tomorrow’s energy system looks like. The transformation needed for that is the focus of what we do. In line with the European energy policy we are setting the course today for a rapid conversion of the infrastructure to climate-friendly energy sources. Until the end of the decade, we are preparing our powerful pipeline network for hydrogen transport in the gigawatt range. And even before then, the first pipeline sections should already be transporting hydrogen.

We want to operate the first offshore hydrogen pipeline since we see great potential in hydrogen production at sea. We are thus further developing the transport infrastructure in line with demand, and boosting the supply of domestic hydrogen.

To achieve this ambitious goal we are involved in several relevant projects, for example, in the North Sea. GASCADE is therefore driving the development of the European energy infrastructure forward – sustainably, demand-oriented, and reliably.

GASCADE – Secure Energy for Europe

We stand for secure gas transport.

We monitor and control our entire pipeline system from the dispatching centre in Kassel. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Our infrastructure, located centrally in Europe, connects five countries directly with each other. We are constantly developing the network in order to flexibly transport gas to exactly where it is needed, hence making a crucial contribution to supply security for Germany as an industrial location.

Our independence

GASCADE is an independent transmission system operator. We have been organised for more than ten years as an independent, fully regulated transmission system operator on the basis of the German Energy Industry Act, and are certified by the German Federal Network Agency.

GASCADE runs its transport business in a non-discriminatory manner. This is monitored by an internal compliance program, a Compliance Officer and the German Federal Network Agency.

Sustainability

Sustainability is a top priority for us. We bear responsibility and take it seriously – for our network users and business partners, our employees and the environment. As a company, we are aware of the repercussions of our actions: economic, ecological and social objectives must be in harmony so that commercial success is sustainable. We don’t look far into the future for that. The issue is already changing processes and the way we work now.

As the operator of an important pipeline system, we have a clear commitment to the climate goals defined in the Paris Agreement. We have undertaken to achieve climate neutrality in 2045 and want to make a valuable contribution to the transformation process towards a decarbonised energy system. We therefore implement measures to enable eco-friendly gas transmission, and are also helping to shape the European hydrogen market right from the outset.

We are also aware of our social responsibility and are establishing sustainability in all our work processes.

More information

Certifications

We set ourselves high standards, as evidenced by the certifications we hold for quality, energy management, information security and the organisation of our company.

H2-ready: technical safety management

As part of TSM certification, the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) verifies general organisational safety on the basis of legal requirements. That includes aspects such as plant safety as well as environmental protection and occupational safety measures. Since 2023, GASCADE has been certified not only for transporting natural gas but also for hydrogen, which makes it H2-ready.

Information security management

IT security is a sensitive issue, especially in relation to critical infrastructures. We address its special significance with our own hardware and software systems. Certification of our IT systems by TÜV as part of the information security management system (ISMS) testifies that data and information security are handled reliably at the company.

Energy management

We attach very great importance to transparency and sustainability. Our optimised energy management system means we always have a transparent overview of all consumption and energy quantities, including internally, and can respond quickly and in a targeted manner to adjustments to our processes.

Our cooperations

Trading Hub Europe

Like all German transmission system operators, GASCADE has contributed its network to the Trading Hub Europe (THE) market area. The market area, which comprises around 40,000 kilometres of pipeline network and over 700 downstream networks, is operated by THE GmbH as the market area manager.

FNB Gas e.V.

FNB Gas is the association of the supra-regional gas transmission companies in Germany. It coordinates, among other things, the further development of the transmission systems within the network development planning.

ENTSOG

The role of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) is to facilitate and enhance cooperation between national gas transmission system operators (TSOs) across Europe, to ensure the development of a pan-European transmission system in line with European Union energy and climate goals.

BDEW E.V.

The German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) represents more than 1,900 companies in the electricity, natural gas and heating, renewable energies, electromobility, energy networks, water, and wastewater sectors.

DVGW E.V.

As a recognised standardization body, a centre for technical and scientific know-how, and a promoter of technical innovations, the German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) is the competence network for all questions related to gas and water supply.

AQUAVENTUS FÖRDERVEREIN

One million tonnes of green hydrogen per year, produced from wind energy on the North Sea and transported on land by pipeline – that is the vision of AquaVentus. More than 100 companies are now represented in the sponsoring association.

BIL EG

GASCADE is one of the initiators and co-founders of BIL eG. The “nationwide information system for pipeline research (BIL)” is intended to protect the supply infrastructure from being affected and damaged by civil engineering works.

German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (DWV)

The development of a climate-neutral hydrogen market economy as part of a sustainable energy supply is the focus of DWV.

Verband Sichere Transport- und Verteilnetze/KRITIS e.V. (VST)

Most of the members of the VST (Association of Secure Transport and Distribution Networks/KRITIS e. V.) are operators of critical infrastructure, or work on these supply infrastructures as service providers and construction companies.

Suppliers

Purchasing is responsible for the procurement of goods and services of GASCADE Gastransport GmbH and its affiliated companies. To ensure optimum procurement, we aim to work in partnership with competitive suppliers. Environmental protection, occupational safety and social standards are important aspects in our relationship with suppliers.
