The Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) project has received €15.3 million in EU funding to support preparatory work for a future cross-border hydrogen infrastructure.
Helsinki/Copenhagen/Kassel. The planned Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) project, an offshore pipeline connecting Finnish and German renewable hydrogen markets, is receiving support from the European Union. Gasgrid Finland, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and GASCADE Gastransport GmbH are grateful to receive a €15.3 million grant from the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) program. BHC is a Project of Common Interest (PCI), essential for Europe’s energy transition, energy security, and market integration.
The funding will be used for preparatory activities, including technical (pre-FEED), regulatory, and environmental assessments. These studies aim to explore the potential of BHC as a future cross-border hydrogen transmission corridor, supporting Europe’s long-term energy transition and energy security. This phase will study possible connections between Finland and Germany. A connection to Sweden will be discussed in later phases of the project together with BHC partner Nordion Energi.

Currently, the BHC project is focused on assessing regulatory, commercial, and technical conditions. The German section of the project is already included in the officially approved hydrogen core network, which is being developed in parallel by GASCADE.
