Renovation of the ERM gas pipeline in Ludwigshafen-Oppau begins – information event for residents

Ludwigshafen. Maintenance work on the ERM pipeline in Oppau will begin in September and is expected to last until November. The work will involve partially replacing the pipeline's casing.

On 1 September, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., an information market will be held for citizens in the clubhouse of BSC 1914 Oppau (Edigheimer Straße 110, 67069 Ludwigshafen). No registration is required. The information evening is open to all: anyone interested can obtain information throughout the event, regardless of when they arrive. Experts from GASCADE will be on hand to explain the measures and talk to visitors individually.

The construction site will be set up along the green area on Jakob-Scheller-Straße and further along the grounds of Heartliner e. V. in Oppau. The maintenance work will be carried out according to a proven standard procedure, during which the pipeline will remain in operation.

Maintenance begins with exposing the pipeline. The soil is removed in layers and stored next to the excavation pit. The excavation pit is secured with shoring boxes. The area around the pipeline is exposed by hand. Skilled workers use shovels to remove the soil around the pipeline. The soil is lifted out of the excavation pit with an excavator and stored. The old casing of the pipeline is then removed mechanically by hand and the ERM is recased. Finally, the excavation pit is backfilled and the surfaces restored.

We will endeavor to complete the renovation work as quickly as possible. However, we cannot completely avoid the noise and increased traffic that is usual on construction sites. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Background

The ERM pipeline is just under 57 kilometers long. It transports gas from Ludwigshafen to Karlsruhe. The pipeline supplies downstream regional networks and thus households, businesses and industrial companies along its route.
