Preparatory work begins for new HYSO hydrogen pipeline to the industrial park in Schwedt/Oder

GASCADE begins preliminary investigations to connect Schwedt industrial park to the hydrogen core network.

Kassel. GASCADE Gastransport GmbH has begun initial preliminary investigations for the planned HYSO (Hydrogen Schwedt/Oder) hydrogen pipeline. The new pipeline is intended to connect Schwedt industrial park to Germany’s hydrogen core network. Since October, investigations along the planned pipeline route have included assessments of ground conditions as well as flora and fauna.

With HYSO, GASCADE is planning a new hydrogen pipeline from Schönermark to the industrial park in Schwedt/Oder. At Schönermark, the pipeline is intended to connect to the HYOS hydrogen pipeline, which is already in operation and was converted from the former OPAL natural gas pipeline between Lubmin and Radeland. From there, the planned route runs eastwards to PCK Raffinerie GmbH. HYSO forms part of the hydrogen core network approved by the Federal Network Agency (ID KLN074-01) and will provide Schwedt industrial park with access to a supra-regional hydrogen infrastructure.

Investigations along the planned pipeline route

Between October 2026 and October 2027, GASCADE is carrying out environmental mapping along the planned pipeline corridor. These surveys record flora and fauna and their habitats. The investigations take place in the cadastral districts of Schönermark, Grünow, Landin and Schwedt. Mapping is carried out exclusively on freely accessible land.

Ground investigations will also be carried out until the end of 2026 to determine soil conditions and groundwater levels along the planned route. The results provide an important basis for further technical planning and the selection of suitable construction methods. GASCADE coordinates the investigations with the affected land users.

Preliminary archaeological investigations will be carried out in parallel with the ground investigations. These aim to identify potential archaeological finds and features at an early stage so that they can be taken into account in subsequent planning. The preliminary investigations are being carried out in preparation for the approval procedure. They support the preparation of the required planning and application documents and do not prejudge any decision on the approval or construction of the pipeline.

Background: Connecting Schwedt’s industrial hub to the hydrogen network

HYSO is part of the “Flow – making hydrogen happen” programme, through which GASCADE is developing a continuous hydrogen transport corridor from the Baltic Sea to the main consumption centres in south-western Germany. Connecting Schwedt industrial park is an important building block in the expansion of this hydrogen infrastructure.
