Hydrogen pipeline in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania creates prospects for decarbonization of industry. Invitation to information events in November 2025.
Kassel. Preparatory ground investigations will soon begin for the planned HYROW hydrogen pipeline, which will connect the Rostock port area with the Wrangelsburg area in the future. The aim is to determine the soil conditions and current groundwater levels along the planned route. The data obtained will be used to adapt the implementation planning and the construction methods used to the local soil and water conditions. As part of the investigations, test drilling will be carried out at selected points along the route. Owners and tenants of the affected areas will be contacted in advance. The results of the ground investigations will be incorporated into the preparation of the documents for the planning approval process, which is scheduled to start next year.
The HYROW pipeline is part of Germany's hydrogen core network and is scheduled for completion by 2028. HYROW is being implemented by GASCADE Gastransport GmbH (GASCADE) as part of the “Flow – making hydrogen happen” infrastructure program, which aims to promote the development of an efficient hydrogen supply in Germany. The approximately 120-kilometer pipeline will transport hydrogen from the Rostock port area and connect other regions via the program's pipeline system. HYROW connects hydrogen production and imports from the port area with the program's high-performance north-south axis and creates connection options for consumers and producers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania along its route. By providing this important infrastructure, GASCADE is supporting the transformation of the northeastern federal state towards a low-carbon energy supply and also offering local industry a concrete opportunity for decarbonization.
Information events in November 2025
In order to inform the public about the project at an early stage and in a transparent manner, three information events will be held in early November 2025 in the districts of Rostock, Vorpommern-Rügen, and Vorpommern-Greifswald. Interested citizens will have the opportunity to learn about the HYROW pipeline, the current status of planning, and the next steps, as well as to ask questions directly to those responsible for the project.
