Pipeline link close to Lubmin can go into operation before the end of 2022

Kassel / Lubmin. The first LNG link to the German gas network in Lubmin can go into operation in December: In just a few weeks, GASCADE has completed the pipeline link to the landing station (Greifswald) for NEL and OPAL, into which the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) can feed in gas as part of the “Deutsche Ostsee” LNG project of Deutsche Regas GmbH.

“The project shows that we are reliable and, this way, are supporting the government’s efforts and society’s wish to quickly diversify supply sources,” says GASCADE Managing Director Christoph von dem Bussche. Since the grid connection request by Deutsche Regas was not made until the summer, it left little time for the implementation. “The project was very demanding in terms of time, and we are proud that we can already make our contribution this winter to supply security for Germany and Europe,” project manager Stefan Petter adds. “That was only possible with a competent and very dedicated team.”

The 450-meter-long pipeline has a feed-in capacity of approximately 6 GWh/h and, looking ahead, will also be able to be used for hydrogen. Liquefied gas is to be converted on the FSRU into a gaseous state. The regasified liquefied gas can be transported from the landing station (Greifswald) through the OPAL, NEL and EUGAL gas pipelines to Germany and Europe.
