Lubmin 2
Natural gas receiving station

The Lubmin site is the link between Russian gas and European consumers. This is where the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines, two of the biggest natural gas import pipelines, reach mainland Europe and join the gas network. To get to Lubmin the gas has already covered a distance of more than 1,200 kilometers. From here, the gas is distributed via pipelines such as EUGAL. The Lubmin 2 natural gas receiving station provides the infrastructure needed for this.

Since its completion, the new natural gas receiving station can take on gas from Nord Stream 2. The natural gas is then processed at the site (filtering, preheating, setting the pressure and quantity) for further transport. A connecting pipeline to the NEL pipeline was also approved in the plan approval procedure for the natural gas receiving station. This pipeline is around 130 meters in length and connects the station and hence also EUGAL to the existing NEL pipeline, via which part of the gas will be transported westward.

The first few meters of EUGAL, where they are located on the site of the natural gas receiving station, were also approved in this procedure.

How a natural gas receiving station works

In the natural gas receiving station, the gas from Nord Stream 2 is filtered and heated and the pressure and volume of gas for further transportation is set. The figure below shows how the facility works.
