EUGAL: Natural gas receiving station in Lubmin receives approval

Successful conclusion of the planning approval process / Start of the facility’s construction

Stralsund/Kassel. The Stralsund Mining Authority has successfully completed the planning approval process for the natural gas receiving station “Lubmin 2”. With the planning approval decision, all necessary permissions for construction of the facility have been obtained. The approval also covers a small section of the European Gas Pipeline Link (EUGAL) as well as a connection with the Northern European gas pipeline (NEL) – both of which are located at the area of the receiving station.

“Approval of the natural gas receiving station represents another major step for our EUGAL project. The facility is an important interconnection point in the European natural gas network and the starting point for EUGAL,” states Chief Project Manager Ludger Hümbs. The station will be constructed in the Lubminer Heide industrial and business park and construction of the facility should be completed by the end of 2019.

The planned Nord Stream 2 reaches mainland Europe and joins the gas network at Lubmin near Greifswald. From there, the natural gas is distributed flexibly within Europe via the pipelines EUGAL and NEL. With the construction of the natural gas receiving station and the EUGAL pipeline, GASCADE is responding to the growing demand for natural gas and transport capacity in Europe.
