Christoph von dem Bussche becomes first President of ENNOH

Pre-ENNOH established: Important step towards the development of a pan-European hydrogen transport network

Brussels/Kassel. The future operators of hydrogen transmission networks in the EU have taken an important step towards the development of a pan-European hydrogen transport network: In Brussels, yesterday, they
founded the “Pre-ENNOH” initiative, which is expected to be transferred to the new European association ENNOH (European Network of Network Operators for Hydrogen) by the end of 2025.

Christoph von dem Bussche, Managing Director of the German transmission system operators GASCADE Gastransport GmbH and NEL Gastransport GmbH, will be the first President of ENNOH. “It is a great honor for me to be able to help shape the development of the European hydrogen infrastructure and the hydrogen market together with the future European hydrogen transmission system operators,” said von dem Bussche after the unanimous vote. “Cooperation between network operators is the key to a successful ramp-up. We are seeing this in Germany with the hydrogen core network. With ENNOH, we will tackle this central task at the European level.”

On the basis of Regulation (EU) 2024/17892, the future hydrogen transmission network operators will intensively advance the work of the ENNOH association. ENNOH's main task is to promote the development and proper functioning of the internal market for hydrogen and cross-border trade. Specifically, this includes:

  • the elaboration of European network development plans (TYNDP)
  • the development of network codes and technical recommendations on
    various hydrogen-related topics
  • cooperation with the associations ENTSOG and ENTSO-E
  • providing regular information, providing common operational tools and ensuring regional cooperation, as required by the hydrogen and gas market package
