doing hydrogen:
A hydrogen hub for Eastern Germany

doing hydrogen connects hydrogen projects in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt to form an efficient hub: production, transport, storage and consumption of this future energy source all under one roof, ready to launch in 2026. A unique project for East Germany, its people and its economy – and an important building block in implementing the German and European hydrogen strategy.

Infrastructure is the lifeline of the hydrogen economy. Underground pipelines transport the hydrogen from the production sites or import ports to the consumers and storage facilities – safely and efficiently. The 575-kilometer long starting network connects production and consumption points in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Berlin. The principle of using existing pipeline infrastructure enables rapid scalability to large hydrogen capacities and provides a strong foundation for regional and international expansion. A connection to Salzgitter and Eisenhüttenstadt is also already planned, as is the connection to Poland, the Czech Republic and Denmark.

GASCADE and ONTRAS are the two companies that launched doing hydrogen. As the initiators, they are instrumental in building a strong platform for the hydrogen economy in East Germany.
