Carsten Monien: I initially went through an IT specialist training program with a focus on system integration and then earned a degree in information systems. Both programs gave me a good foundation for my job. They enabled me to learn the details of implementing an IT project as well as its organization, or theoretical superstructure, so to speak.
Monien: The job is filled with variety and covers many areas where IT and the gas business intersect. Each project has its own special requirements and challenges. The German Network Agency or the EU come up with new regulatory requirements like the publication of our network data on a regular basis. My job is to translate this into IT.
Monien: In addition to the knowledge base, you need to be especially good at organization and communication. Frequently, it is just a matter of getting the right people together at the right time on the telephone or a conference table. Because some projects may last up to two years, you should certainly be able to work in an independent, self-responsible and, above all, structured manner.
